Step 2:

Swap Shingles

After removing the damaged shingle you need to slide the new shingle up into the place. The process is very delicate, by aligning the new shingle with either side. You will need a hammer, a flat pry bar, a knife, and roofing nails. A shingle is secured with four nails that add on the nails of the next shingle that passes through the top edge of the shingles.

Remove the first row of nails by sliding the pre-bar under the shingle above the damaged shingle to gently lift, free and remove the seal strip. Then you can see the first row nails beneath which will be easy to remove the damaged.

Next, slip the pry bar under the damaged shingle and pry upward to pop up the nails which will be easier to remove. After yanking the entire nail, you can pull out the damaged shingle ready for a replacement.

If the shingles are too old for removal and you’re worried they may brittle, you can cut the damaged one it using V-notches in the replacement to fit around the four nails. And side the new shingle up into the place and secure it with four nails.

Step 3:

Shingle Replacement

Carefully replace the shingle by lifting the shingle and secure the new piece with roofing nails.
